Starcross Steamer 2013

The 'Steamer' is Starcross Yacht Club's winter pursuit race, attracting boats from around the UK to brave alternate years of gales and calms, with temperatures usually close to freezing!

This year was a forecast calm and whilst the race started in good winds, the pressure drained away steadily until the estuary was a mirror. With boats drifting backwards as the finish hooter went, recording the finishing order was something of a challenge for the race officer...
