This movie was made to show the design process to make a first proof of concept. We are currently working on a second version to present during the makerfaire in Roma. A Website will be up and running by the end of September with all the info on how to make your own and more.

Cartamundi, world card manufacturer, asked us to look for a concept which combines play cards and electronics no boundaries given.

The result is Whist, an interactive lamp concept designed by Peter Mortelmans and Alexandre De Bie during our mechatronic course at HOWEST University College (Belgium).

Whist, which refers to the well known card game, is an interactive lamp build with play cards and a movable multiplex structure.

Its organic shape and movement is inspired by nature. The 3 mm multiplex sheet is processed with the laser cutter in order to create a much more bendable structure and an easy (de)assembly of the whole lamp. The 6 leaves are able to move up or down depending on the input given by the user. A closed lamp will create a softer ambient light as a completely open lamp is able to provide enough light to be functional.
