Microgeographies is a work in progress on the transformations of specific socio-geographic environments. In particular it refers to the archeological sites of Ovriokastro, Keratea and Diana Agrotera, Mets and Skopeutirion Kesarianis: neglected areas of major historical and territorial significance, reclaimed by the local communities (together with architects and artists), through a process of autorganization.
It focuses on the action of local communities, as well as on some small-scale, minimal actions by social and artistic groups which assert a more poetic and political aspect of everyday life and function as a way of personalising resistance to the globalscape, to the further spread of areas abandoned to misuse, to the dominance of property speculation and the strategies of “refinement”: a small gesture, a trace, an in situ discussion or quick chat, the repetition of an everyday action (referring to work or a stroll).
This closer –“inner”– look through artistic, architectural and social practices contains a wish: to experience rather than to consume, to unite rather than to divide, to simplify rather than to analyze.
At Part I: Camp / Contemporary Art Meeting Point, we focus on the case of Keratea and Kesariani. Material of the local community together with artistic interventions are presented for each site. At the same time, art works of relevant concept, works that pose questions on autorganization and presense, give a sentimental or existential tone of the "suspended" question: And now what?
Microgeographies II. An Accidental Guide to Urban Commoning is realised in collaboration with the Cultural Associaiton of Keratea "Xrisi Tomi", the 'Ardittos" cultural association of Mets and the Initiative of Citizens of Mets.
Microgeographies II are presented concurrently at Camp, at Orizontas / Kerameikos and at THE APARTMENT off site/ Mets in Athens and in various sites in Keratea.
