Sure, you know the choreography to "Vogue," but do you know who created it? [Hint: It wasn't Madonna.]
“Punk Ballerina” and downtown choreographer Karole Armitage, known in part for choreographing Madonna’s legendary “Vogue” video, will gossip about the ins and outs of her career with the Father of the House of Ninja, Benny Ninja. Ninja, currently a judge on "America’s Next Top Model" and better known for his own career in ball culture and vogue-based choreography, sits down with one of the artists responsible for changing the face of contemporary dance. Armitage has performed in roles under the illustrious Merce Cunningham, collaborated with Jean-Paul Gaultier and Jeff Koons, and choreographed the Broadway show “Hair.” She creates contemporary works that push boundaries blending music, art and dance. Armitage, a recent recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship, will offer Center audiences a behind-the-scenes view of her career and discuss her most recent piece, “Mechanics of the Dance Machine,” premiering at New York Live Arts.
This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
