A small group of doctors from Zanzibar Link, a charity based at Musgrove park hospital, Taunton have been travelling to Zanzibar for several years to provide training and practical help to hospital staff and doctors.
The project is all about enabling and providing local staff with increased skills to better help their patients.
In the Radiology department, systems have been put in place to ensure that patients are seen without hours of waiting, that their X-Rays and scans are reported in timely fashion and correct treatment is administered, immediately where necessary. Previously X-Rays would be taken home and patients often remained untreated for days or even weeks.
Other doctors have set up an emergency room and trained local staff to administer drugs accurately, to apply plaster and dressings correctly, how to suture patients and to operate equipment that has remained unused for years within the hospital.
This film is an attempt to show some of that work to people in the UK and to raise funding for the continuation of the project.
