Heavy rain the night before made for a good level with big bouncy wave trains and most boulders washed out, making for a relatively safe and pin free descent. I had a bit of a wake up call on my second grade 3 river, with swims at the washing machine and the spin dryer plus a bit of ferry gliding out of the boat...
Brilliant day, we were meant to paddle the Barle on day 2 but the torrential rain and snow melt made it a bit too hairy... Massive thanks to Andy, Sue (rescued my boat), Chris, Matt and Tim and also the kayakers who recovered my paddle - cheers all.

Couple of notes for my reference:
Paddle stokes are less effective in aerated water
Need to set up boat line much earlier and more assertively in bigger water - think ahead
Need to consider active paddling into bigger water rather than just bracing/steering
Need to think about carrying throw lines and safety cover at all times out of the boat
