A Letter from Cindy Hertzel
I want to share with you a video that my husband, Robby, made with Northwestern Mutual. It speaks volumes about the lessons we can all learn from his life experience. In this video, Robby talks about the inherent goodness of people and the need to treat each other with kindness.
Robby inspired countless people with his CarePages blog, in which he shared his insights and faith. One month before he died, he wrote this:
“We all make our difference. It can be seen in our children, our relationships, perhaps our careers and in many other ways. Not everyone needs to make a huge difference. I read something about a great horse who recently passed away. His difference is not so much in the many awards that he won, which were plentiful. His difference is the joy that he brought to so many people here.”
As you probably know, Robby was a 1981 graduate of The Summit Country Day School. He loved this school and we sent all three of our children – Robby, Holden and Caroline – to The Summit. Robby’s friends wanted to honor him by making a difference at The Summit. They began to raise money for an endowed scholarship and many other friends quickly endorsed it. In just one short year, this scholarship is more than half way to its goal. The sooner we reach the goal, the sooner we can make a difference in children’s lives. The scholarship will be awarded to students who – like Robby – inspire those around them through their words and deeds, embrace lifelong learning and demonstrate a commitment to serving others.
I invite you to join us in making the Robert T. Hertzel ’81 Memorial Scholarship a reality. Your donation will honor and celebrate Robby’s legacy.
