Grade 6 level for Piano, Violin and Cello
This piece is part of the soundtrack for the feature documentary film "Heretic" that follows the life of New Zealand artist Christina Conrad.
The Axe was written in reflection of when the artist, in a state of terrible realisation and catharsis, takes an axe and destroys her collection of artworks. An awakening ensues after.
The recording features Cello performed by Rachel Valentine (Pippin/AOBO) and Bonita Cynthia Silva on Violin and Viola, and was recorded with the rest of the soundtrack during Covid lockdown encompassing multi-tracking techniques to emulate full string section sounds. Mixed by Emmy Award nominee Evan McHugh.
