Can you hear it?
Cecilia was born deaf, and had never heard music. However, her ambition to become a conductor is too strong to hold back, and her consequent experiments with sound lead her into a brave new world where the deaf can hear.
Inspired by sound, love, and the ambition of Evelyn Glennie, who changed the world's attitude toward listening, and opened music's doors to so many disabled students.
Cecilia is played by Sarah Stewart-Watson, and I'm indebted to Jamie New who always listens hardest when I need it most.
The music is taken from Beethoven's 2nd Symphony, recorded by University of Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Barbara Schubert, available on IMSLP.com.
