The Substance Abuse group received a grant to develop a marketing campaign that would help raise awareness to combat underage drinking and prevent the onset of alcohol related substance abuse. Underage alcohol use in the state of Iowa is a serious problem, and statistics show that alcohol is the substance most frequently used by youth. 52.6% of Iowans age 12+ have used alcohol during the past month. Furthermore, the risks and consequences for a teenager that chooses to drink can be huge. Through foundational research, it was discovered the most influential underage audience are those age 13-15. This age group is having their first encounters with alcohol and the campaign can have an impact and reach these teens before their critical decision moment.
