We've paid tribute to the life and music of James "J Dilla" Yancey every year since his passing on February 5th 2006, and this year is no exception. Join SIMAHLAK and myself, SCOTT C for what we both agree is always one of the most most palpable and memorable nights of music each and every year. We play Jay Dee all night long.
Need we say more?
James Dewitt Yancey (February 7, 1974 – February 10, 2006), better known by the stage names J Dilla and Jay Dee, was an American record producer who emerged from the mid-1990s underground hip hop scene in Detroit, Michigan. Yancey began his career as the producer for Detroit hip hop group, Slum Village, and as a member of the production trio The Ummah, before launching a solo career in the early 2000s. After a stint on MCA Records, the vast majority of Yancey's work, both as an artist and strictly as a producer, was released on smaller independent labels, most notably Stones Throw Records, and BBE Records. His list of collaborations and productions is long and strong.
