Iván Hervías Rodríguez, Marcos Ochoa, and Sergio Pascual discovered a hidden world. A world populated by the many microorganisms living in water. Over the past four years, they have catalogued their observations and learned a lot about how these microorganisms impact our world. Now, they hope that their research will lead to improvements in sewage treatment to purify the world's natural water sources. These three students from Spain were winners in the 15-16 age group for their research in the 2012 Google Science Fair.

Sometimes great ideas start in young minds... just like the minds of these three Spanish explorers. If you're 13 to 18 years old and have an interest in science, technology, medicine, or the environment, we encourage you to enter the 2013 Google Science Fair!
