This film originated as a conceptual photography project in September of 2011. Being a dancer, I was interested in movement and how well it translated into a static image, the mannequin serving as my subject. I took the photos, edited them and forgot about them for a while.
A few weeks later, I came across them again and thought "This would make a really cool short film." I scribbled down a few ideas and decided to try it. I didn't know how to go about planning a film, so I used some of my photos as a kind of storyboard.
Not having a well planned story or decent equipment, I didn't get very far. I edited what little material I had and ended up with a slapdash 30 second video, shot in my bedroom with the worst digital camera you could ever imagine. Not really knowing what to do next, I scrapped the project and left it to languish in my Films folder.
I said that I'd return to it one day, when I had a better camera and more experience.
A year passed. October of 2012. The Film Society at my college was sponsoring a film contest in January of 2013. I had a better camera and more experience. I dug my little mannequin out of storage and decided to go for it.
I didn't win the contest, but it was still a great experience.
I hope it inspires you.
