LMO recently completed recordings for Dancing on the Edge- a major drama series in 5 parts which is written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff.
Dancing on the Edge tells the story of a black jazz band who after initial resistance, eventually find fame and fortune amongst the upper class society of 1930’s London.
LMO contracted the 7 members of the jazz band for the 2 month shooting schedule which took place in the UK earlier this year.
Composer for the series Adrian Johnston then wrote for an 11 piece Big Band which was recorded over 7 sessions at Angel studios.
Finally, Adrian Jonstone’s underscore was also recorded at Angel studios. This involved a 17 piece string section over 5 sessions, together with alto sax doubling clarinet, electric guitar and trumpet doubling flugelhorn.
LMO was led by Sonia Slaney and conducted by Paul Englishby who also arranged and conducted all the Big Band sessions.
Dancing on the Edge has started screening on BBC2 and was released internationally by ITV studios Global Entertainment.
