Once a year, The Art of Elysium, throws a high profile and extremely memorable gala to raise money and awareness for their charity which brings arts and entertainment to children in hospitals. Running with this year's theme of "Heaven", Oscar winning buddies, costume designer Colleen Atwood & production designer Rick Heinrichs, wanted to create a "magic hour" environment at the venue . . which happened to be in a downtown Los Angeles traffic tunnel. Rick came to Social Animal for some "magical" footage to fit their needs, and we jumped at the chance to collaborate!
We headed out to Pt. Dume in Malibu and filmed time lapse of a majestic December sunset. What we captured is actually a perfect example of how our SA-9 360º camera system can be used to create extremely wide angle, hi-rez shots. We only stitched video footage from 5 of the 9 cameras since the end projected result did not have to be completely wrap around the venue. In essence, we created a 180º ULTRA-WIDE angle shot with absolutely no fisheye distortion. Mission accomplished!
Final delivered ULTRA-WIDE video was at a resolution of 11,000 X 1080 and projection mapped 25+ft hight on the tunnel walls with 5-20K projectors.
