A small group of adventurer filmmakers makes a first descent attempt on El Cheech Gorge in Chiapas Mexico. This gorge has never been run because of unknown obstacles including at least two places where the river drops into caves. The aerial scout reveals little about the river or the caves but they realize they will have no sat phone or GPS because the gorge is too deep and the walls to steep. If someone is hurt it will take two weeks for a qualified team to be brought in, they only carry a week of food in their heavily loaded boats. Their first attempt at a launch from the top of an 80 foot waterfall is met by locals who threaten to cut their ropes with their machetes if they attempt to rappel. After beating a hasty retreat they rush their second launch point in hopes the locals won't have time to react.
