Since her earliest memories Katie has been a creative. Growing up she was always making something, drawing, painting. In college she fell in love with painting, the way colors worked with each other and the stories she was able to tell left her as motivated as ever to create more things.
Her passion for painting spilled over into every area of her life. She couldn’t stop making new things or altering what she had to make it her own. When Halloween was approaching she knew she wanted to create her own costume. While making her costume she mistakenly miked a highly flammable chemical into the fabric and set it on fire. The flames immediately made their way up Katie’s side and back. She was in a coma for over 2 weeks with severe burn injuries.
Katie was physically and spiritually scarred from her accident. She didn’t find true emotional healing until she attended an Angel Faces retreat. Angel Faces is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide healing retreats and ongoing support for adolescent girls with burn/trauma injuries to achieve their optimum potential and develop meaningful relationships for themselves, their families and their communities.
