I've long been fascinated whether you can separate art from the artist. Does an artwork depend on the artist's intent/character or can it transcend the maker. Above all, the Bust of Costanza Bonarelli embodies this problem for me. The sculpture is such an arresting tribute to beauty. Yet in real life Bernini had her face slashed with a razor. I can't work out whether the piece overcomes the artist or vice versa.
