Music by David Kilgour. 'Diamond Mine' performed by David Kilgour & The Heavy Eights.
Poetry by Len Lye, William Blake & Colin McCahon (John 11:9)
Directed and painted on film by Bridget Sutherland.
The focus of the work is poetry and ecology. It uses 16mm and 35mm hand-painted film alongside archival and filmed footage. Its abstract painterly sequences are combined with text, quoting the poem ‘Night Tree’ by pioneering NZ experimental film-maker Len Lye, a fragment of ‘Ah Sunflower’ by William Blake and ‘Are there not Twelve Hours of Daylight’ (John 11:9) as quoted in the painting of the same title by NZ painter Colin McCahon.
