Every January for the past three years I've gone up to the shore of Lake Superior to shoot the full moonrise behind Split Rock Lighthouse. It's the only time of year that it rises right behind the monument - other times it's either over the lake or over the shoreline. It is a yearly pilgrimage for local photographers, and it's always a gamble as to whether or not the moon's going to show. The first year my dad and I went, it was spotty clouds, last year, completely clear, this year... well, no moon. Our "en route" photo ops were way better for the clouds though. It's always a fun trip no matter what.
