Even in October, when these photographs were taken, many tourists still head for Pisa's Piazza die Miracoli, and its inevitable main attraction. After an initial smile of recognition, there follows a pose of seeming to support or push the Leaning Tower, and tourists become both stars and paparazzi. In these photographs, I show something of this light-hearted tradition, and its individual variations within conformity and expectation. I deliberately kept the tower, a well dressed clown always on the verge of a pratfall, out of shot. The parts of buildings that can be seen are mainly the cathedral and baptistry, its more sensible companions.
