HBO's mini series John Adams is a period political drama about the man who would become the second president of the United States. This storyline alone seriously limits the potential audience in Australia of this otherwise first rate miniseries.
The point of the show, I believe, was for the U.S. audience to draw parallels between the government of the day (lead by George Bush) and the newly formed government of late 18th century. I think it would be safe to say that this movie was the filmmakers' contribution to the campaign to elect Barack Obama.
Normally, a [good] promo producer wouldn't only hint at these themes in a promo. In this instance, I felt that the Australian audience might need a more explicit communication of what the show was trying to achieve. That it wasn't a piece of pro-American propaganda. That it could even relate to our political system. So this tease was just a way to set the scene while we waited for actual footage from the programme to be delivered to us.
The campaign that followed this tease was your standard launch trailer showing the specifics of the story, characters, time and place.
