Created during my undergraduate study at Hampshire College as part of Baba Hillman's Super 8 Filmmaking & Transnational Migration & Diaspora study abroad course in Paris, France. This film is a meditation on the filters through which language and self-expression pass, be they geographical, cultural, or of other origin. The tongue is a small organ and yet many politicized and historicized things are implicated in the way it is used. The mouth may be blocked from speech and yet we may find ways in which to free the throat, sometimes through subverting what is imposed in ways that can benefit us. A hold is a grip, but it may also be transformed into an embrace.
Super 8 Film Transferred to Video, Color, Silent, 4:3, 5:18 min., 2009
