Group Chair Lourie Bosman (South Africa) reported that the Group has given a lot of attention to animal welfare issues, mainly through the OIE but also through FAO. The Group has also been working on Animal Identification and Traceability, said Mr. Bosman. This is important for maintaining consumer confidence in livestock products. Private standards, and animal disease and control were the other main issues discussed by the Group. However, concerns such as trade policy, concentration in the value chain, currency fluctuations and climate change were also raised. In future, IFAP will set up a more firm working relation with the IMS.
