Another tune learned from Dwight Diller, this one off of a recording rather than in person. Interestingly, my great great great grandfather, US 3d Artillery officer John Hooks Lendrum was present at Santa Anna's retreat in the Mexican-American War in 1848, along with comrades and fellow West Point graduates such as Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, and other future luminaries on both sides of the American Civil War. John Lendrum was a 'voltigeur" - a sharpshooter - and received a battlefield promotion from lieutenant to captain for gallantry. He never lived to serve in the Civil War, being fatally injured by "a train of dirt cars" at North Beach (San Francisco), California, in October 1861.
