This recreation, in miniature, of a Soviet mass spectacle was originally produced at the Bushwick Starr as part of Target Margin Theater's 0,2012: the Last Futurist Lab. In January 2013 it was presented at the Detroit Institute of Arts in conjunction with the exhibition Fabergé: the Rise and Fall.
The 1920 performance in St. Petersburg, a site-specific pageant, is very well-documented in eyewitness accounts. All the puppet movements you see here were based on the original 1920 choreography, as seen in fragments of archival film footage. I have compiled some of them at a neighboring link for comparison. vimeo.com/60339699
The show was created by Kathleen Kennedy Tobin.
