REMIX is an audio visual installation by multi-media artist Fader (James Cui). This piece is specially designed for the Park Avenue Armory's Veterans Room and showcased on February 18th, 2013. The term “remix” is commonly referred to when something, typically a piece of music, is being altered from its original form. As our society progresses, we live in an increasingly remixed world where nothing can be claimed to be the original.
At the end of 19th century, when the Veterans Room was first dedicated, one of the prominent classical composers of that period was Joseph Haydn. His string quartet Hob.III:12 Op.2 No.6 has been chosen to be remixed for this installation utilizing synthesized computer instruments with vocal choir arrangement. Through the video mapping technique, each note or sound will be visually animated adapting to the unique architectural features of the Veterans Room's fireplace wall. The audience will be dazzled with synchronized visual music animation, transforming the room into a living music box.
