I was offered a chance to test a set of CineMills LEDs, and was anxious to see how they would perform. As chance would have it, a friend also needed a music video, so after deciding to devote our day to filming -- we started pulling elements together.
First stop: wardrobe. Second stop: Balloons. Third stop: Funeral. Fourth stop: Soundstage. (Yes, you read that correctly, I attended a family friend's funeral the day we captured this).
I listened to the song many times prior to shooting, so that was a big help. As such, there were images circulating through my mind's eye that seemed complementary to the song. Unfortunately though, there was no treatment, so that made things problematic from a pacing standpoint -- without a clear outline, it can be difficult to fill holes, or be sure you are gathering enough coverage.
At best, I was aiming to capture ephemera and kept referencing the carnivalesque, French New Wave films and Fellini as we lit. Hope some of that comes across.
