It's amazing how two people can grow up in two different worlds, whirl around the planet and finally find their home in each other. Kumar and Rachana are two fun-loving globetrotting souls who met and since then made the world seem a little smaller with their love. Here's their story.
A son of a businessman, Kumar was born in Hong Kong and grew up with his sister, running around and chasing kids at the park. Even as a young boy, Kumar was a restless rascal and a jedi by heart, (by that we meant a huge Star Wars fan. They even took their light sabers to their wedding). Kumar flew to Sydney, Australia right after high school and after that, moved to Manila and Mumbai wherein he found his passion for diamonds. Those sparkling, enchanting diamonds. It was at this time when Kumar discovered his calling to be a jeweller and studied the art of cutting, certifying, and setting these gems. Who would have thought he would later find a gem of his own? Meet the diamond of his life, Rachana.
For a girl whose favorite day is April Fool's, Rachana is a real charmer. Born in Manila, she was raised in Africa and was later sent to live with her aunt in Chicago wherein she studied as a kid. She moved to Curacao to spend her high school years (yes, with the Carribbean blue as her playground), as she "played pranks and frolicked in the turquoise blue waters". When she was entering college, she flew to Boston and took up a degree in Writing, Literature, and Publishing at Emerson College. Taking so many experiences, memories, and skills to practice with her, Rachana and her family moved again to Hong Kong wherein she worked as publisher in Beyond Sindh, a quarterly Sindh magazine. And like knot-tied noodles, it was in Hong Kong where her path crossed with Mr. Right.
Kumar and Rachana met in 2006 at a friend's engagement party in Hong Kong. They were introduced, talked, and realizing how comfortable they were with each other, became instant friends. But the two did not meet again until 2010, when they got the chance to get together once again with friends. That party at Lan Kwai Fong was followed by a movie date night in Kowloon, and a new year's eve date in Macau. Kumar and Rachana grew on each other, thanks to coffee hangout nights, Facetime hours, sushi, and Mc Donald's fries dates. After a year of being great friends, it was about time these two admitted they were developing a crush on each other. Ah, nothing like a teenage love story (although Kumar claims Rachana made the first move. Haha!)
All around the world and finding the love that makes their world go round. Kumar and Rachana now have their bags packed and ready as they say Yes to a sweeter journey together. (And kicking the adventure off with a wedding covered by Wang Videography? Excellent choice, you two!)
But before they go, we caught up with them for some wise words. They share: "We learnt that sometimes things have to fall apart so that better things can come together - what we think is best for us may not necessarily be what we need - God knows best who is meant for us and why we are where we are at the present moment."
Well said, Kumar and Rachana. So wherever you guys are at this present moment, we hope you'd enjoy our roundup of Kumar and Rachana's unforgettable day.
