When I first heard about the Gypsy Horse from a Gypsy Cob breeder in New Hampshire, I became facinated with the story, the history of the travelling people and the fact that the horse was not only breathtaking to look at, but brilliant in every way. The horses are intelligent, powerfully built, docile, easy to train and good in all disciplines. My first trip to the UK to meet a breeder and his horses, was mind blowing. I got many stories from a "horse broker" who drove me there, she being a friend of a Gypsy Horse breeder I met here on the East Coast. I felt honored to be in the presence of hundreds of these horses - in awe of the people as well. There is a rich history here, in both England and Ireland , we hear the stories of a few Romani families who have committed their lives to maintaining the quality of this spectacular breed. Today they are bred to perfection by a select few; most can still pull the heaviest loads while still carry a rider with speed and agility. The breed is sold all over the world and the stories of struggle and triumph are facinating and heartwarming, a story that needed to be told, to be enjoyed by all.
