The National War Memorial Carillon must be Wellington's largest musical instrument, towering at 50 metres. It was unveiled at the 1932 Anzac Day commemoration, when 49 bells each named after a New Zealander lost in World War 1 chimed in harmony. And today it is still heard, while it watches over us like a lighthouse, its lamp visible from the harbour and the city.
