While working on „interchangeability“ I made a new friend who introduced me to Steve Reich. Being a John Cage fan, I set out to mirror my circumstances in sound. I was working towards an open call requesting „copyism“. My internet was acting up so I could only grab bits and pieces from you tube. So I grabbed what I could and let it play when it was ready...orchestrated by me. What was created is a series of clicks (me), and sound excerpts that are kind of unlooped loops. The excerpts are from Steve Reich’s Proverb, the ballet; Back and White, Piano Phase and the Desert Music. There was something freeing in this semi-controlled randomness. The video of the flowers randomly blowing in same wind gave the sound a new dimension for me. I shot the footage on a day when I felt my life was spiraling out of my control in a direction I didn’t want it to go in. I saw them from the door to the balcony and the movement had a calming effect on me. They were so strong and yet so delicate, each one dancing or battling the wind in their own way. The wind didn’t break them, but let them move in beautiful and dynamic ways and allowed them to seed the future.
