I made this as a stop motion work. First I formed the wafers from sugar. Then I stacked them, one at a time, on a mirror and took a picture of it. Each wafer has a hole that I threaded monofilament through to get the stack higher. When it got to a height I liked I let the stack fall, which I captured on video rather than as a still image.
I made the piece as an exploration of the rise and fall of the rush. It is part of the "Sweet Demise" series, which addresses our love affair with excess, using sugar and salt as metaphors for what we crave.
