Local author David Read Barker spoke at the Maryland Writers Association - Annapolis Chapter meeting on Wednesday February 20, 2013. Educated as a medical anthropologist, he holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. degree from the New School for Social Research. He has lived and worked in more than 100 countries. His life of sailing, with his wife Lisa, is chronicled on their blog gyatso.net/blog/.
David talked about his life and successes as a writer, and his talk is entitled, "A Tale of Two Books." The first book, published traditionally, is a cruising guide to the Black Sea, based on a circumnavigation of the Black Sea with his wife in 2010 in their sailboat. The second book,Volunteers in the African Bush, is a self-published collection of 21 memoirs by fellow Peace Corps volunteers in Sierra Leone, 1965-67.

Video and editing by me. (After his talk, David kindly took questions from the audience. One or two questions at the end were cut off because the battery on the camera died. Sorry about that!)
