This video portrays an honest, yet hopeful theme on how to support the academic achievement of all students, regardless of race or other socio-economic circumstances, through the improvement of school culture. While Dr. Noguera’s observations and suggestions regarding school culture apply across the spectrum of student diversity, sections of this presentation highlight the current plight of Latino and ESL students. This thought provoking presentation will surely stimulate conversations and ideas among any educators, parents, administrators, or student advocates who watch. To explore Dr. Noguera’s discussions on this topic in greater depth, a recommended reading would be his book The Trouble with Black Boys (2008). This video is presented with permission from Dr. Noguera and American Public University System.
