God’s promise is not for an easy life or a hard one, but for a life that is free in God’s embrace. God’s freedom is ours, when we give ourselves to the gathering, sheltering arms of Jesus, instead of giving ourselves to a latter day Herod or any other political promise. God’s freedom is ours when we give ourselves to the road of discipleship, of living for the Gospel vision of justice and forgiveness and hope, even when we thought we could not go on.
