Floating about is a location based game which is played by walking through an urban environment. A handheld projector enables players to explore a hidden world behind the cities walls. In order to see a different section of the world, whose representation is based on localized data from OpenStreetMap and Twitter, the group of players has to move further through the city.
The device the player is holding consists of a PicoP laser pocket projector, an iPhone and an array of IR-LEDs. Wii Remotes track the infrared light emitted by the device in space. This enables an interaction similar to revealing a dark setting using a flashlight. The laser projector allows for a sharp image, independent of angle and distance to the projection surface.
