‘Do you remember it – or weren’t you there?’ was an exhibition curated by Cally Trench and Philip Lee at London Gallery West of work by artists and writers whose starting point was a live performance by Philip and Cally. This was an experiment in ‘ekphrasis’ – an attempt to see if work made by other artists could convey the impact and emotion of being present at a live performance.
The film explores the work made by the artists and refers back to the performances in 2010-2011 by Philip Lee and Cally Trench. It was filmed by Jonathan Roe and Gerry Williams, and edited by Jonathan Roe. Music – ‘Hedgerow in August’ - courtesy Tom Fahy.
The exhibition and film feature work by Marco Cali, Alison Carter Tai, Judy Goldhill, Jane Grisewood, Ingrid Jensen, Lydia Julien, Philip Lee, Sophie Loss, Tony Moody, Claire Norman, Lorraine Pepper, Steve Perfect, Alan Prosser, Ann Rapstoff, Zahed Tajeddin, Cally Trench, Helen Udal, Mary Yacoob, and Silvia Ziranek.
At the private view on 30 January 2013 there were performances by Silvia Ziranek, Ann Rapstoff, Lydia Julien, and Philip Lee, live drawing by Ingrid Jensen, and a Banquet where guests could sit, snack and chat.
The exhibition was open daily 31 January to 3 March 2013 at London Gallery West, University of Westminster, Harrow Campus. For more information about the exhibition, see doyourememberit.co.uk
