Visit Seattle inaugurated the Why Tourism Matters campaign in 2008 to attract attention to an industry that is less visible than it could be. The campaign has helped to put a “face” on the industry and has since been adopted by other communities across Washington State and around the nation. Lucy Wilma from the Seattle Renaissance Hotel was announced as the 2013 Tourism Ambassador of the Year at Visit Seattle's annual meeting, the 2013 Seattle Tourism Outlook. Wilma succeeds Jayme Gustilo of the Seattle Monorail, who was the 2012 Tourism Ambassador of the Year.
Along with Wilma, four other Seattle Tourism Ambassadors will be profiled in the Why Tourism Matters advocacy campaign during the next year. The class of 2013 Seattle Tourism Ambassadors include:
