'Puppets can say things that humans can't, and they can do things that humans cant so they have a voice and they have an ability to tackle issues that other people can't'
'Coming Alive' by Jaha Browne (1988) is a short documentary that sees a London puppeteer create a marionette Zombie from a piece of wood. Shot entirely in her studio we see how Sian Kidd puts parts of herself into her character as well as the birthing process of one of our most ancient art forms, speculated to be over 5000 years old. This film was made as part of an experimentation module, during which our Labbers were encouraged to push boundaries and try new styles and techniques.
Produced by the British Film Institute in 2012 as part of the Doc Next Media Lab scheme.
