Make The Cut, LLC
This is from the February 26, 2013 Q&A Webinar for Make The Cut!
MTC Version 4.5 was used for the demonstrations in this Webinar.
You can find the question thread for this Webinar here: forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/31131/february-26th-webinar-over-what-questions-or-topics-do-you-have#latest
00:00:00 Welcoming Remarks
00:01:08 Bryan demos how to check for and find an “open path” or line and then how to close it as discussed in this thread: forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/31101/how-to-close-an-open-image-resolved
00:15:51 Bryan gives a general discussion on “self-stick” vinyl (indoor and outdoor vinyl like Oracal or Avery brands) and doing a “kiss cut” – a cut that cuts only through the vinyl but not the backing sheet and how cutting it is different then cutting paper or cardstock. Vinyl must be “weeded,” removing parts not to be used. Then transferred from the backing sheet with transfer tape. Also discusses difference in cutting HTV type vinyl (heat transfer vinyl for making shirts.)
00:27:58 Brief Discussion regarding Sound Issues on Webinar
00:28:44 Bryan reviews how he recreated an image that was too small to get a good trace on as requested in this thread by hand tracing or using basic shapes: forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/30975/looking-for-some-help-with-a-designlogo#latest
00:47:45 3 or 4 Section “slider” Guitar card as shown in this thread: forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/31140/two-trick-pony-card; Bryan postpones actually giving a demo on making in MTC. Please see video link in the thread for one example of how to make this style of card.
00:50:53 Bryan demonstrates how to create “Text on a Path” by wrapping and then warping words to a flourish; he also discusses “design issues” to consider in choosing font to use.
01:11:55 User had a purchased SVG file that was not importing correctly. Bryan reviews a couple of different issues causing problems with this file. One is an issue with older versions of Adobe Illustrator. (Andy has fixed this issue in MTC 4.1). The other issue was the way it was designed, it has a lot of overlapping but open nodes rather than fully closed shapes. Bryan easily fixed with “fuse and weld”.
01:24:05 User wanted to know how to create a “PDF” file from a MTC file that would include the color fills and registration marks in order to send the file to a professional printer for printing and then be able to use the printed docs to do a “Print and Cut“later. Bryan explains you need to use a PDFWriter program like PDFCreator or CutePDF Writer, DoPDF, etc. to “print” the complete file to a PDF file in order to get the color and registration marks in the file. Exporting to PDF or a raster image from MTC will not give you the registration marks needed.
01:36:30 Bryan reviews the new “duplicate” feature introduced in MTC 4.5. Hold down the ctrl, shift and select the object, then left click and drag.
01:41:33 Importing WPC files into MTC was added with MTC 4.5. Julie gives a demo on importing WPC files. Note that WPC files works with “line colors” to establish “groups” while MTC uses “layers” and “fills”. When you import a WPC file into MTC, it converts the group of line colors to layers with fills of that color. There are thousands of free WPC files available on-line. 01:46:48 Julie gives a quick demo on the new “Warping” an object to a path introduced in MTC 4.4. She demonstrates taking a border and wrapping it around a rounded object to create a doily. Also see Julie’s written tutorial information here: forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/31086/tutorial-for-creating-a-doily-from-a-border-in-mtc-4-4-0#latest and Andy’s Video Tutorial found here: forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/31198/4-5-1-warp-objects-to-path-video#latest
02:09:08 Bryan gives “Homework” for people to play with this feature and see what they can create.
