Demonstration of the connection of the anvil to an Autosuture DST series EEA circular stapler in a laparoscopic esophageal repair surgery. The anvil shaft is attached to a gastric tube and the anvil is secured in the flat position by a suture, allowing it to be introduced orally and guided through the esophagus using the gastric tube. After delivery, the suture is cut, the gastric tube is pulled away, and the stapler is inserted into the thorax and introduced into the stomach. The trocar punctures the wall of the stomach and is guided into position for connection to the anvil. As the trocar is advanced into the anvil shaft, the anvil is forced into the open position and locks into place. The two parts of the stapler are then drawn together for the actual stapling. Created and animated in Cinema 4D and After Effects.
