Pit bull, owner find missing woman in Piscataway. Reporter: Sean Bergin. Photographer/Editor: Will Caldwell. PISCATAWAY - A young hairstylist and a pit bull are being credited with saving a life in Piscataway.
Carmen Mitchell, 89, who suffers from dementia, was missing for several hours Thursday evening after wandering away from her home. Her son, Luke Stapleton, called police after searching her home and the immediate neighborhood.
Middlesex police brought in canine units and launched a helicopter to search the area, but to no avail.
At around 8 p.m., Cara Jones was taking her pit bull, Creature, out for a walk nearly a half-mile from where Mitchell was last seen. Upon hearing sounds in the marshy terrain near her home, Creature began to bark and take her in the general direction of where Jones eventually found Mitchell on the ground.
Mitchell was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for hypothermia and released.
