Produced in collaboration with a development organization and musical atelier called Abaim, I am currently in post-production for a feature length film that shows the making of the Mauritian drum called the Ravann in the traditional manner. The film safeguards this knowledge from disappearance, valorizing this instrument. This drum was originally developed and played after working hours by African slaves as a method of lamentation and resistance. The ravann was almost lost ten years ago due to discrimination of its origins and the rising popularity of the drum kit. The film witnesses the fabrication of this instrument in the traditional manner while collecting stories and know-how that surrounds the history of this object.
