With the completion of this animation, I realize that I’ve acquired the means to create a pleasing scene without leaving my seat. Like each cultural contributor before me, I can dip into the creations of the past and multiply their effects into a presentable form. Utilizing only 8 still images (from a web search), I changed, combined, overlapped, and animated their visual aspects within the Frame over time. Adding a soundscape to this progression solidifies the illusion.
This animation was created for my final project in Advanced Video Graphics at WCC. I used Adobe After Effects. I did not create all the assets from scratch, though I modified and added to them in Adobe Photoshop. Clips downloaded from freesound.org comprise the audio.
This was an exercise in rendering simple 3D-scenes and lighting effects, as well as standard alteration of layers’ positions and colors across time. I used a Motion Tile effect to loop the images of the road and background. Some blur effects were used on passing vehicles and tires.
The rider is concentrated; he looks over his shoulder passing opposing traffic. An airplane rumbles overhead, passing billboards for road-side taverns. The countryside turns blue from yellow as the sun goes down and the color wheel turns. Seeking shelter as it begins to storm, the man on the motorcycle ducks down a familiar road.
