Nan Hoover’s career as an artist has spanned more than 50 years. Originally trained as a painter, drawing has been of fundamental importance to her – as a means of rendering ideas as well as an end it itself. Indeed, one might say that the notion of inscription has been a recurring focus within her work, as have the themes of the body and language, space and landscape. Despite or perhaps because of her interests as a painter, her practice has taken the forms of performance, video, light, installation and, recently, digital photography. In conversation with Klaus Jung and others, Nan Hoover will discuss why and illustrate how she has embraced these media, and in what way they continue to influence the work that she produces.
