Remix of Phil Morton's "Crosseye: Feelin' Man" and "Data Bursts in Three Moves"
Curated by jonCates for "Remix-it-right", a screening of remix videos for revisiting archives of Phil Morton at Conversations at the Edge and SAIC
Phil Morton developed COPY-IT-RIGHT, an alternative to copyright that encourages making, sharing, re-editing and distributing media art.
Art is the most liberal and most conservative sphere to work in. Art and activism are ultimately at odds. In an attempt to politicize or autonomize, every aesthetic ends up in a ghetto unless it adapts to the cult of the contemporary. Capitalism failed, Marxism failed, and now everyone is a DJ.
Having as much sex and drugs as possible to achieve perceptual freedom has nothing to do with political agency. Fucking for peace is like bombing for virginity. More pleasure does not mean more liberal.
Protest interferes with 420 and people don’t want that. If I really wanted to make a difference art is likely not the realm to do it in. Our drug use is making us docile. I should just donate my time to charity and activism–the type that involves leadership to bring people together in an organized fashion to fight the “status quo”. I don’t know why I am saying this now. I will probably feel embarrassed and delete it later…
