According to The Telegraph, an al-Qaeda inspired gang planned to attack Britain with up to eight suicide bombs because the 7/7 terrorists had not done enough damage. The jihadist group, which is now on trial, wanted to carry out "another 9/11" and planned to hit crowded public places to cause "mass death" and "carnage in the name of Allah". Their attack would have been even more devastating than the July 7 London bombings, which left 52 innocent people dead.
Moderate 5.3 earthquake shakes central California. According to the Associated Press, a moderate earthquake was widely felt as it rattled the central California coast, but authorities said it didn't cause any damage. The U.S. Geological Survey said nearly 5,000 people reported that they felt the magnitude 5.3 quake, when it struck near King City, about 40 miles southeast of Salinas. USGS geophysicist Amy Vaughan says the temblor struck along the San Andreas Fault and was followed by at least four aftershocks that were greater than magnitude 2.5.
Nine churches forced to close in Indonesia. According to Asia News, nine churches were ordered closed and deemed 'illegal' for lacking the proper permits in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Under the law, private homes cannot be used "for religious ceremonies or functions." When churches try to register, however, they are often denied because of pressure from radical Muslim groups. The mayor has even stated that "Aceh is a special territory that enforces Sharia (law)".
