As a realtor, Yvonne Hawley can find you the perfect home faster than you can imagine, but not near as fast as she changed her lifestyle from being overweight to an Ironman triathlete. Yvonne needs goals in her life to achieve, so when she found out about Shawn's Anomaly's iDO Fab 5 Fundraiser team, she set a goal to finish a race in honor of her friends sister and to raise awareness for the mission.
Every 4 1/2 minutes a child is born with an abnormality in the U.S. Sadly, the general public knew very little about these conditions until Shawn's Anomaly was organized in 2012 with a mission to provide education, hope, and help to families affected by congenital anomalies.
Shawn's Anomaly aids families, educates the public, and funds medical research in hopes to reduce the statistic that 1 in 33 children are born with an abnormality. Now amateur athletes from all over the world are using their endurance races to raise awareness for the organization's mission
When Yvonne moved to Houston after being a chef at the Ritz, she wanted to change her lifestyle and focus on healthier choices. She joined the gym and became friends with "crazy" triathletes. This inspired her to be crazy too train to be just like them. She wanted to use her races to better the world around her, so Yvonne decided to apply for the sponsored iDO! Fab 5 endurance team, but she never expected to be selected.
Yvonne received an email explaining she was selected to join four other endurance athletes from all over the nation to be a part of the iDO! Fab 5. The 5 athletes are sponsored by several national companies like Bluefin Apps, MyFitFoods, Newton Running Shoes, Champion System, and yurbuds to become ambassadors for the Shawn's Anomaly mission. Yvonne chose the Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 13.1 run) in Lubbock, TX on June 30, 2013 as her Shawn's Anomaly iDO race.
"I want to do this for my family, my husband, myself, my friend, but ultimately to make the public aware of how serious these conditions are and what impact is has on families," Yvonne says.
