With the first of February 2012, a page inspired by a famous drawing of the Palestinian cartoonist Naji Al-Ali (1936-1987) started on Facebook.
This page invites the visitors to send their images with a comment or a statement against a social or political situation or phenomena. The idea is to use the human body to say “No” by taking a photo with the left hand hanged like its broken taking the shape of the word “No, لا” in Arabic. The human body becomes an element of the sentence – the statement – made by the participant. The photos stay anonymous with taking the eyes of the person off the picture.
No لا, as a group of artists and activists, is trying in a special way to defend the freedom of speech by not agreeing all that offered to us.
No is a way to express the refusal and the support to a situation or a person or a social habit…. No can be said in many ways. The group started with photos and it’s “to be continued…”
